Projection: need to automatically qualify

Weber State’s body of work shows a clear pattern: it can hang in hostile environments as evidenced by close games at Utah, at Utah State and at UC Irvine while collecting resume-building victories over Campbell, Missouri KC and Oral Roberts, but it has also been undone by occasional blowouts at St. Thomas and at Utah Valley and by a painful home loss to Utah Tech that raises questions about consistency. Road success, including the win at Missouri KC, helps the case because the selection process prizes wins away from Ogden, yet the club has not parlayed every opportunity into a signature neutral or road victory. The remaining slate offers multiple ways to improve with winnable home dates against Portland State, CS Sacramento, Eastern Washington and Idaho and high-leverage road trips to Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Montana and Montana State that would carry extra weight if taken. In short, the season so far is a mixture of encouraging competitive toughness and damaging spikes of inconsistency, and the upcoming conference stretch will determine whether the résumé reads like a team worthy of at-large consideration or one that needs the automatic qualifier to get in.
